what's one korean dish you miss the most and find it hard to recreate?
No seriously. If I go to a supermarket in our country, chances are I will find NOTHING Korean at all. There are some Chinese or Thai or even Japanese stuff, but we are so Korea-deprived here it’s sad.
If it weren’t for a good friend of mine, who’s good at cooking, I wouldn’t be even able to make/eat kimbab ;A; (which would be terrible, considering Tuna kimbab is my favourite Korean dish).
That aside, the things I miss the most are those small, random dishes that are abundant in Korea and you don’t really think much of them until they’re gone. Stuff like kimchi (I especially miss kkakdugi which is kimchi made of white radish), pickled radishes (danmuji), cheese ramyeon, soy milk (duyu), rice cake dumpling soup (tteok mandukuk) etc.
But rather than that, I miss the smell. Korean food smell. Or that amazing convenience, when you can go to Kimbab Cheonguk at 11PM and still get your favourite serving of cheese donkaseu for 4500 won when you suddenly got hungry late at night ;~;
I would do unbelievable things for this right now. It’s past midnight, and I want something high in calories and totally bad for health, and something that tastes like home (although my mom actually never makes this lol). But I used to eat this quite often at my grandma’s. That counts too.
Refan is torturing me with this. YOU EVIL YOU KNOW THERE’S NO SUCH THING IN KOREA OMG!!! T___T
